Pokémon TCG Obsidian Flames Set List Reveal

When it comes to Pokémon sets, one of the most exciting parts is the set list reveal. Our English main sets are released every 3 months and historically, have always been a month or two after the Japanese set releases. This has always meant that we have seen all of the cards in Japanese that will be coming in our English set. Obsidian Flames changed this and released alongside Ruler Of The Black Flame in Japan, so we had no idea what all of the cards were going to be.

Luckily for us, Obsidian Flames is now fully released and we have been treated to a full look at this awesome set list. You may have been following the ‘leaks’ and predictions in the weeks leading up to the official release date and it was a pleasant surprise to see that not everything was revealed before prerelease events began. Now we have the full set list to play with and there are some stunners amongst them. This is a great set for collectors, with 4 different Charizard ex cards for you to get your hands on.

There are a couple of websites which are great for Pokémon news and updated setlists. They often have the Japanese to English translations and have the ‘predicted’ set lists on there a few weeks early. Of course, they are not set in stone and are subject to change but they have always been pretty accurate in the past.

Rare And Powerful Cards To Look Out For

Obsidian Flames is a great set for both collectors and players and both will be hunting down those Charizard ex’s. From a collectors standpoint, Charizard is a fan favourite and is highly collectable. In this set we have the Dark type Tera Charizard ex, the Full Art Charizard ex, Special Illustration Rare Charizard ex and the Gold Charizard ex. Wow, that’s a lot of ‘zards for you to go after! Not only are the collectors excited for Charizard, but the players are too. Some early deck lists and testing suggest that Charizard ex is a very powerful deck, capable of taking down a lot of our current top performing decks. Look out for lots of Charizard decks running rampant at your local league. Another notable card is the Pidgeot ex and this is the one that I am most excited for. It is mostly used as a support Pokémon but the positives for it are endless. Firstly, it has 280HP, which is big for a 2-prize Pokémon. Secondly, it has free retreat which is a brilliant trait to have and can help you out as a pivot in many sticky situations. Thirdly, it has a brilliant ability called ‘Quick Search’, which allows you to, once per turn, search your deck for a card, reveal it and put it into your hand. So basically, get whatever card you need on every turn. How crazy good is that? And you can fit it into most decks to help with consistency, which makes Pidgeot ex my competitive card of the set.

Availability And Release Date

Pokémon Obsidian Flames was released on 11th August 2023 and is the third main expansion in the Scarlet and Violet series. You can get all the usual products for Obsidian Flames, including booster boxes, elite trainer boxes and build and battle kits.
