2022 Advent Calendars Have Just Landed
Posted by Magic Madhouse on 25th Sep 2022
Speciality Advent Calendars are definitely more widely available and increasing in content each year. Last year, Kosmos joined the foray with their first Exit Advent Calendar: The Mystery of the Ice cave. Selling out in 5 weeks, well before Christmas, this 24 day puzzle intrigued and delighted both established Exit fans and novices alike.
This year, the second advent calendar from Kosmos, The Hunt for the Golden Book looks even better!
But don’t take our word for it, Quinns from Shut Up and Sit Down commented
“I had a terrific time with it. I found myself continually delighted. I’d really look forward to doing it”.
Unlike your run of the mill advent calendar, the Kosmos advent calendars are both an EXIT game and adventure story: in order to free yourself from your predicament, you must open a door of the calendar each day. Behind each door you will find a detailed 3D room and a new and exciting riddle, the solution to which will bring you closer and closer to escaping!
Each EXIT Advent Calendar is an EXIT game and a 24-day-long adventure in one. Each door in the calendar reveals a unique room containing an exciting new riddle. Solve one day’s riddle to determine which door to open the next day. These games are completely card-based and unplugged. They include a decoder board, riddle book, and riddle cards.
EXIT: Advent Calendar - The Mystery of the Ice Cave
The Mystery of the Ice Cave story centres around a pre-Christmas ski trip that definitely didn’t go as planned: Trapped by an avalanche you found yourself in a frozen cave and had to solve a series of riddles to get from room to room and, eventually, to freedom.
Just as you are taking a break and enjoying the crystal-clear mountain air, you hear a noise and see a terrifying avalanche crashing down the mountain towards you. Your heart is in your throat, you hastily grab your seven things and race down the slope. With the last of your strength, you throw yourself into a crevice in the rock as everything behind you is buried in snow. Your heart races and you pull yourself together. You can hardly believe it, but you are alive! Only then do you take a look around: is this some kind of cave?
EXIT: Advent Calendar - The Hunt for the Golden Book
New for 2022, Kosmos have released a second Advent Calendar: The Hunt for the Golden Book. Again, aimed at novice riddlers, this is a fantastic way for your family to count down to Christmas. In this story, Santa Claus' golden book has disappeared! It contained a complete list of all the Christmas wishes. If the book isn't found by Christmas Eve, there will be nothing but sad faces around the tree on Christmas morning.
The thief's trail leads you to a remote mountain village. You quickly notice that something strange is afoot here...but what? And where has the golden book gone? You must find it, but beware: Behind the doors of this village there are many surprises waiting for you! It is up to you to save Christmas — and time is of the essence!
This advent calendar is an EXIT game and an adventure story all in one. To find the golden book, you must open a little calendar door every day. Behind each, you will find a new exciting puzzle, the solution of which will help you to move onto the next room. Only if you follow the clues and solve all 24 puzzles will you find the thief and the book ... and save Christmas.
With limited stock of these advent calendars available from the Kosmos production of the Ice Cave reprint and the Golden Book, it is worth grabbing a copy of the calendars well before Christmas! Be sure to check them both out here:
