5 New Star Trek Spoilers Boldly Going Where No Card Has Gone Before

5 New Star Trek Spoilers Boldly Going Where No Card Has Gone Before

Posted by Magic Madhouse on 21st Oct 2026

On November 13th, MTG players will voyage out into the cosmos with the release of the Universes Beyond Star Trek crossover. This isn't the first time that Magic: the Gathering has gone full Sci-Fi. 2025's Edge of Eternities expansion took the game up into the stars and introduced the Spacecraft card type. Now Spacecrafts are returning, and not just any spacecraft, but iconic ships like the Starship Enterprise, the Voyager, and the Defiant.

On the 20th of October, Wizards of the Coast shared a preview stream with the world, showing off upcoming cards from this intergalactic set. Here are five of the highlights from that stream.

Magic: the Gathering interprets Spock's classic catchphrase incredibly literally. When you cast Live Long and Prosper, you double your life total, and draw cards until you have twice as many cards in your hands as you had before. With all of that life, you'll certainly be able to live long, and with all of those cards you'll definitely be able to prosper.

Live Long and Prosper will make for a great include in any blue/white control deck. Opponents running aggro simply won't be able to beat you down fast enough once your life total doubles, and the additional cards drawn by this effect will give you the resources you need to turn the tables against them.

As any Star Trek fan will tell you, the trouble with Tribbles is that they multiply incredibly rapidly. If you include Troubling Tribbles in your deck, then you had better have plenty of copy tokens handy. During each of your upkeeps, Troubling Tribbles creates a token that's an exact copy of itself. This, of course, means that token will have the same effect, meaning it will copy itself as well. You'll have four tribbles, then eight, then sixteen, then thirty two and on and on exponentially until the entire table is covered in tribble tokens.

While these tribbles are unable to block, there's plenty that you can do with a board full of 0/1s. Coat of Arms will turn them from tiny pests into gargantuan game enders, Impact Tremors will ensure that every Tribble will deal a blast of burn damage as it comes into play; or you can sacrifice them to enable the effects of cards like Bartolome del Presidio and Goblin Bombardment.

Spock demonstrates that a card's effect doesn't need to be complicated in order to be powerful. Mr. Spock, Science Officer has the same effect as the classic card Thought Reflection except you can cast him for about half of the cost, and he provides a useful defensive 2/4 stat line.

You don't have to be a Vulcan to realise that it's only logical to include this card in any of your decks that feature a suite of card draw spells.

Replicator enters play alongside a food token, and has a two mana tap effect that allows you to duplicate any token that you control. You could use this ability to generate even more food, but there are plenty of more creative things that you can replicate.

Why not use Idol of Oblivion, or Desolation Twin to create a 10/10 Eldrazi token that you can then duplicate repeatedly until reality crumbles? Alternately, you can fill the sky with 4/4 Angels with flying and vigilance, or Phyrexian monstrosities generated by cards like Wurmcoil Engine. The pool of powerful tokens that you can replicate is essentially endless.

The Space Station Deep Space 9 lets you dig deeply into the depths of your deck to pull out permanents and put them straight into play. When Deep Space 9 enters play, and during each of your subsequent upkeep steps, it exiles the top four cards of your library and puts any permanents that it reveals straight into play. You don't have to pay their cost, so this effect can grab anything from Emrakul to an Impervious Greatwurm and bring them onto the battlefield without paying their casting cost.

Of course, at nine mana, Deep Space 9 is pretty costly itself. Since it's colourless, though, there are all sorts of ramping options like Forsaken Monument and Ultima, Origin of Oblivion, that will help you get this space station into orbit as quickly as possible.

As well as rushing permanents into play for free, if you crew Deep Space 9, then it provides a significant +3/+3 buff to every creature that you control, helping to step beyond the final frontier.
