With the days getting shorter this time of year, October is the perfect time to take to the skies and blend in with the night! Let me take you under my wing as we explore this promising upcoming set.
Following Power of the Elements, the 10th Core Booster of Series 11 Darkwing Blast is hitting shelves on the 20th October and this 100 card set is packed with “Blackwing” cards that will take your deck to soaring new heights!
Featuring a new version of Crow Hogan’s Black-Winged Dragon, new tuners to help quickly summon Synchro monsters like the new “Blackwing” synchro monster and of course new cards with themes to add to decks you already have, this set is certainly looking to take off and you’ll want to grab it before it does!
Each booster box contains 24 booster packs, which have 9 cards per pack. The 100 card set contains 10 Secret Rares, 14 Ultra Rares, 26 Super Rares and 50 Commons.
Brand New Archetypes!
Two new exciting archetypes are being introduced in Darkwing Blast: Bystial and Kashtira, and they certainly look to mean business!
First up is the “Bystial” archetype of LIGHT and DARK Dragon Monsters. The Bystial playstyle centers around the banishing your opponents cards and general disruption of your opponents plays. Four Level 6 Bystial Monsters, One Level 8 Bystial Monster and One Level 12 Bystial Monster are released in Darkwing Blast. All Level 6 Bystial Monsters have effects that trigger if Special Summoned or sent to the Graveyard. Typically these Level 6 Monsters will be used to tribute for higher level Bystial Monsters, such as “The Bystial Lubellion” and “The Bystial Alba Los”.
The other new archetype making its debut is the “Kashtira” archetype, which features mainly Level 7 Psychic monsters. Cards of this type are focus on banishing your opponents face down cards and special summoning if you control no creatures. Furthermore Kashtira spell and trap cards look to summon additional Kashtira monsters and either activating an effect when banished or banshing opponents cards if the opponent activates a card of the same type.
Which cards should I look out for?
One of the key components of the Bystial archetype “Bystial Magnamhut” is an absolute must have for any Bystial or Dragon deck as its removal of a DARK or LIGHT monster in either graveyard can special summon it. Furthermore, if it is special summoned you can add a Dragon monster from your deck or graveyard to hand (except Bystial Magnamhut.) This makes it a monster reborn card - as a monster!
The Psychic ferocity of the Kashtira wouldn’t be the same without “Kashtira Fenrir”. Being able to be special summoned if you control no monsters, it has a few tricks up it sleeves in the form of banishing a target face up card your opponent controls OR adding a Kashtira monster from your deck to your hand allowing you fast access to the rest of your monsters!
The Level 8 Synchro monster “Black-winged Dragon” is one to watch! Whenever you would take damage from a card effect this card gets a “Black feather counter” on it instead. This card also loses 700 ATK for each Black Feather Counter on it. Once per turn you can remove all Black Feather Counters and target 1 face-up monster an opponent controls. That creature loses 700 ATK for each counter removed and if it does you can inflict damage to your opponent directly for each black feather they removed.
Overall this looks to be one of the best sets released this year and with halloween fast approaching there is certainly no excuse not to pick up a copy in time for your fright night games night! Swoop into action with Darkwing Blast and you’ll soar to new heights! Darkwing Blast can be picked up here, directly from Magic Madhouse!
