Wilds Unknown, the 12th set of Disney Lorcana marked a monumental turning point for this amazing Trading card game. First and foremost, this set marked the first time the Great Illuminary's doors opened to the Pixar universe. In addition, Wilds Unknown is the first set featuring a dedicated Pre-release kit and a Two-Players Starter set. On top of all this, this is one of those set were there are plenty of good cards the Players can enjoy and put in their decks.
For everyone that has been on the fence for this set, or for everyone that just started playing Lorcana, this guide aims to summarise everything you need to know about Wilds Unknown: the storyline and connected lore, the rarest and more interesting cards, how set 12 compares to previous and subsequent sets and how it fits into the current gameplay scene.
Unpacking the Lore: What Is the Storyline Behind the Wilds Unknown Expansion?
The story of Wilds Unknown started with a few massive spoilers in previous sets in particular in Whispers in the Well when Hen's Vision showed the vine spreading all over the Inklands. After the events in Winterspell, and the unexpected winter season brought forward by the Vine, the story moves into the Inklands, where Glimmers and Illumineers are trying to stop the Vine from Spreading further. The Inklands were introduced for the first time in set 3 thus it seems very fitting the set 12 will finally show us more about the Realm of Lorcana starting from the fact that the Inklands are actually composed by large territories called “Domains”. Wilds Unknown focuses on three main ones (WilderKnot, Torchlight Peaks, and Great Empty Sea) and you can collect a postcards from each of them in the Pre-release kit. Thematically the idea of Locations being part of Domain makes absolutely sense and there will be more to opportunities to expand the geography of Lorcana in later sets. For example, set 14 releasing in October will be focusing on a whole town, Hyperia City, as just revealed at D23.
In terms of story, Wilds Unknown is an amazing lore-driven set where cards and abilities are designed to fit the theme of the set and the overall narrative. In Wilds Unknown, our beloved Glimmers are spread into the wilderness and they need to find a way to survive and get back together. Living toys like Woody, Buzz, and Jessie will rely on creativity and improvisation to survive (I love the made-up belt Woody shows in the set artwork) while The Supers will use their strength, speed, and powers in order to overcome the challenges. The storyline (and the abilities on the cards) emphasises cooperation with synergies you can exploit on your decks to make amazing combos.
What Are the Rarest Cards in the Wilds Unknown Expansion Series?
The most interesting cards of the set are as usual the Iconic ones. Introduced in set 9, Fabled, the Iconic is the highest rarity tier in Disney Lorcana and it features cards with a full alternative artwork, special foil treatment and additional foiled details. Most important, there are always only two different Iconic for each set although all Enchanted cards are designed in a similar way in order to give each set a unique art style. Ravensburger has always tried to aligned the art style of all Enchanted cards and the team decided more recently to take this further by creating a cohesive looks between all the rarest cards in a set. Wilds Unknown is actually the first set using this approach and the art style picked for these cards is called “Lore Nouveau”.
The two Iconic cards for Wilds Unknown are “Buzz Lightyear, Jungle Ranger” and “Merida, Formidable Archer”. I know a lot of Illumineers would have expected Buzz and Woody to be the main characters of this set the same way we had Minnie and Mickey were the Iconic cards in Fabled but I actually like that the Iconic cards are here from different Franchises. Among the two Iconic, Merida is definitely a personal favourite both in terms of artwork and gameplay. Thematically, her ability “Steady Aim”, that increases damage deal by any action by 2, is perfectly designed to fit in any Steel deck. Even better if your Deck includes the new action card “Three Arrows”.
The other Iconic, “Buzz Lightyear, Jungle Ranger”, also interacts with actions cards although in this case it allows the player to take back an action card with a cost of 7 or less. Interestingly, Buzz's second ability reminds a bit Maui, Half-Shark one as it increases the Lore of any Character by 1 every time an action is played during the turn.
Right after the Iconic, the Enchanted cards are the second type of card everyone wants to pull from their packs. Enchanted cards are also showcasing an alternative full Artwork and special foil treatment like the Iconic ones but they do not have the additional foiled details. Of course they are also slightly easier to pull from the packs although they are still among the rarest cards in this game.
Among the 18 Enchanted cards featured in this set, Collectors and Players have been particularly fond of the the song card “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” featuring both Buzz and Woody as well as “Alien, True Believer” that shows one of the funniest Character of the Toy Story series. Interestingly, a lot of the Enchanted cards from this set are very playable, in particular after set 13th, Attack of the Vine, released. Among them, the most interesting one are “Jessie, Lively Cowgirl”, “Mrs. Incredible, Super strong”, “Mrs. Incredible, Determined Rescuer”, “Milo Thatch, Getting his Hands dirty”, “Luisa Madrigal, Confident Climber”, and “Jack-Jack Parr, Incredible Potential”. As a result, any of this cards is a great find for both Collectors and Players alike.
How Does Wilds Unknown Compare to Previous Expansions?
Looking to the set in perspective, Wilds Unknown isn’t just another chapter, it’s a structural turning point for Disney Lorcana for multiple reasons. First, the integration of the Pixar Universe is a massive evolution as it expands the game to more recent Characters and Franchises. Earlier sets focused exclusively on classic Walt Disney Animation Studios characters while the new sets beings more modern Characters and storytelling.
Ravensburger also took this set to also evolve the mechanics of the game bringing more interactivity among the cards in order to create a more mature gameplay style. The artwork on the cards has also evolved substantially moving Lorcana closer to create its own artistic identity. Ravensburger actually started in Whisper in the Well to create a link between the lore and the card style/abilities within a given set. Wilds Unknowns is likely a solid evolution of this concept and a great testament of the efforts the team is making to create a true visual storytelling experience.
Together with being extremely nice to collect and to play, the cards from Wilds Unknown have also been much easier to pull from sealed products. Average pull rates from Disney Lorcana Booster Boxes have always been a major issue and it was quite exciting to see how these have been massively increases in this set. In addition, the introduction of dedicated Pre-release Boxes 12 improves the overall experience of the set right from the start ensuring more fun for everyone when attending the release events and a better accessibility for new players entering the game.
Last but not least, Wilds Unknown is a great set from a gameplay point of view, in particular considering is the last one released before the set rotation in July 2026. As a remind, when set 13th, Attack of the Vine, released, all Players had to stop using any cards released prior to set 9. As the current meta-game proves, the cards from Wilds Unknowns have been a great addition to the game and a solid base for current Deck-building efforts.

Where Can I Buy the Latest Wilds Unknown Card Packs Online in the UK?
As most Players and Collectors know, there is not a lot of Disney Lorcana stock left currently in UK. As a result, buying Lorcana safely is essential, especially for highly sought after sets like Wilds Unknown. One of the most hidden threat, in general, is buying loose packs, in particular from unverified third parties as they can leave the buyers with tampered or low-yield packs.
To ensure fair pull rates, make always sure to buy factory-sealed products from trusted UK retailers or official distributors. These partners receive stock directly from Ravensburger’s authorised channels, ensuring booster boxes are not tampered, shipping is reliable and authenticity of the products is guaranteed. The same advantages should also be considered when shopping for Single cards, where the quality of the cards pulled from Disney Lorcana booster packs is also very important.
FAQs
Are cards from the Wilds Unknown expansion backwards compatible with older Lorcana sets?
Absolutely! All cards in Set 12 can be played alongside the cards from previous sets in the Infinity format. In addition, cards from Wilds Unknown can be used in the standard format as they will not be rotated out until set 16 releases.
What is the best way to handle and protect the continuous full-art cards?
As usual, the first step should be use card sleeves to protect these cards. Considering the continuos artwork on this cards, filing them one alongside the other in a 9-pocket binders will create a nice panoramic visual that can be admired without damaging the cards.
How can a player verify that a Wilds Unknown booster box factory seal is untampered?
Official boxes feature a very tight, automated shrink wrap with repetitive Disney Lorcana logo and security markings. The logos usually follow a pattern orthogonal to the box itself and should have no irregular scoring, glue residue, or asymmetric seams. All these details should be checked before unboxing and the Ravensburger support team can be contacted to provide support if needed.
