Master List: Every Card in the Secrets of Strixhaven MTG Card List
Posted by Magic Madhouse on 6th May 2026
Before we get started it’s important to highlight that Secrets of Strixhaven is a ‘guild’ set, by which I mean it’s focused on specific colour pairings that represent Strixhaven’s colleges. There’s five in total, Lorehold (RW), Prismari (UR), Quandrix (GU), Silverquill (WB), and Witherbloom (BG) . Each has their own distinct lore, flavour and mechanics, so bear in mind that the focus will be on those pairings.
Get ready, students, as we return to the wizard school plane of Arcavios for the release of Secrets of Strixhaven! Filled with two-colour schools, a Mystical Archive of powerful spells from the past, and even a slice of the ‘Power Nine’, Secrets of Strixhaven is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. So open your text books, and let’s delve into the Secrets of Strixhaven MTG cards.

New Mechanics and Secrets of Strixhaven MTG cards
There are 10 new and returning mechanics:
Increment
Quandrix is all about +1/+1 counters via Increment, which is basically ‘evolve’ but for all spells. If a spell you cast has a high mana value than the creature with increment’s power or toughness, it gets a +1/+1 counter Infusion – the Witherbloom care about gaining life in Secrets of Strixhaven, and Infusion quite simply this provides you with an effect if you’ve gained life this turn
Opus
The Prismari mechanic is very typical red/blue, providing a triggered effect if you cast an instant or sorcery, but also giving you an additional effect if that spell cost 5 or more
Paradigm
Paradigm is wild. After you cast the spell, each subsequent turn you can cast another copy for free from exile… the gift that keeps on giving!
Prepare
Prepare is the headliner of the set. Much like adventure, you’ll see the creatures with ‘prepare’ also have a small box out that is another spell (there’s some iconic ones in here). If the creature is ‘prepared’ then a copy of that spell is put into exile and you are able to cast it. If you do, then the creature is unprepared and you can’t cast it again unless that creature becomes prepared again. If the creature dies, the spell goes away
Repartee
Nice and simple, cards with Repartee have a triggered effect when you cast an instant or sorcery targeting a creature. It’s the Silverquil (WB) mechanic
Converge
If you can’t decide what college to play and want to go all five colours, Converge is the mechanic for you, providing a bonus for each colour of mana used to cast the spell
Flashback
Not much to say here: Flashback, one of the most beloved mechanics of all time, returns here for the history-loving Lorehold. It lets you cast spells a second time from the graveyard for an alternative cost
Landfall
Another beloved mechanic returns, Landfall provides an effect for doing something you’d be doing anyway – playing lands – turning drawing lands into something you actively want to do!
Miracle
Some people love it (me!), while some hate the swingy nature of it, but either way Miracle is here again. It enables you to play cards, typically instant and sorceries, for a huge discount, so long as it’s the first card you drew this turn. If playing in paper, make sure you don’t stick your draw straight into your hand!
You may notice that Learn/Lesson didn’t return, however anyone that’s a fan of that mechanic can planeswalk back to Avatar: The Last Airbender where Lesson did appear. Magecraft also didn’t return, however as you can see above, the set is full of instant and sorcery based mechanics that play really well with Magecraft spells of the past in formats like Commander, as well as synergising really well with new ‘instant and sorcery matters’ cards like Lorehold, the Historian.
The Mystical Archive: Iconic Reprints in Every Pack
One of the best things about Secrets of Strixhaven is the Mystical Archive, a collection of iconic spells from Magic: The Gathering’s past with funky new art. Each Play Booster contains at least one, and each Collector Booster has at least three. Fans of Limited, either rejoice, or crumple in fear, because whatever you open, you can play, from Armageddon to Force of Will. Even Stock Up returns; a key card released just last year in 2025, that’s one of the best card selection spells ever printed and a must in any limited deck that can run it.
Rarity and Chase Card Power Rankings
Now let’s take a look at what may be the most impactful cards on the Secrets of Strixhaven MTG card list, including the most eyecatching from the Strixhaven 2026 rare card list:
| Card Name | Rarity | College/Theme | Competitive Impact |
| Mythic Rare | Lorehold (RW) | High; enables "Miracle" for spells in hand. | |
| Rare (Commander) | Lorehold (RW) | High; enables token generation from graveyard. | |
| Rare (Commander) | Quandrix (GU) | Medium; scales with +1/+1 tokens and 'X' spells. | |
| Rare | Quandrix (GU) | High; aggressive card draw engine. | |
| Mystical Archive | Utility / Draw | Massive; considered an all-time great draw spell. | |
| Mythic Rare | Creature / Draw | Medium to high; Ancestral Recall is one of the most powerful spells ever made, to be seen if the 5 mana body is too slow for the current meta. | |
| Rare | Removal | High; a new Path to Exile that can hit Planeswalkers too. Very efficient. |
