Everything to know about Magic: the Gathering Lorwyn Eclipsed

Everything to know about Magic: the Gathering Lorwyn Eclipsed

Posted by Magic Madhouse on 24th Nov 2025

Back in 2007, the Magic: the Gathering set Lorwyn dropped. It has since become beloved by the community, thanks to its homely celtic vibes that lend the world a playful, fairy tale atmosphere. The sunny realm of Lorwyn is twinned with the darker world of Shadowmoor, a land that is sinister, where Lorwyn is serene, and cruel where Lorwyn is calm. Now, almost 20 years later, Wizards of the Coast are finally returning to the twinned worlds, for Lorwyn Eclipsed a set that will see Lorwyn and Shadowmoor colliding violently, as light and darkness come crashing together.

Now, almost 20 years later, Wizards of the Coast are finally returning to the twinned worlds, for Lorwyn Eclipsed a set that will see Lorwyn and Shadowmoor colliding violently, as light and darkness come crashing together.

Here’s a guide, outlining what to expect from the set.

Double-Faced Deception

The Ashling Rekindled MTG Card The Ashling Rekindled MTG Card

We’ve only seen a handful of preview cards so far, but one thing that’s coming across very clearly is that Lorwyn Eclipsed has a major focus on double-faced cards.  Unlike most previous double-faced cards, which want to powerup and then remain in their stronger form, the transforming characters of Lorwyn Eclipsed are focussed on transforming back and forth between two different versions, gaining incremental benefits every time.

The Elemental Sorcerer Ashling, for example, enters play as Ashling Rekindled, and can then be transformed into Ashling, Rimebound on its reverse-side.  Whenever this card is flipped into its Rimebound form it generates two mana of any color, and whenever it flips back into its rekindled form it allows its controller to discard and draw a card.

This opens up all sorts of tactical possibilities, since Ashling’s Rekindled side can be used to filter through your deck for cards, while Ashling’s Rimebound side then provides the mana that you need to cast those cards.

Lorwyn Eclipsed Product Lineup

Lorwyn Eclipsed will feature many returning products that have been a welcome part of previous sets...

The classic Magic: the Gathering experience, sealed within several layers of purple plastic wrapping. Lorwyn Eclipsed Play Boosters contain a variety of fantastical fairy tale creatures. You’ll find kithkin, merfolk, elves, elementals and more inside these draftable packs.

Grab a single play booster if you’re looking to dip your toes into the world of Lorwyn, or pick an entire box if you’re looking to get fully immersed and take home 30 boosters.

A Lorwyn Eclipsed Collector Booster offers the shiniest cards from the set, laid out lavishly in a variety of beautiful alternative art treatments.

There’s an exclusive serialized version of the card Bitterblossom Bearer, with art by Rebecca Guay, that is only available in Collector Booster Packs and boxes.

Lorwyn Eclipsed features two Commanders decks that are immediately playable right out of the box.

There’s Dance of the Elements, a five-colour deck, that draws upon Magic’s storied history of Elemental creatures to deliver a beatdown that transcends upon the opposition.

Then there’s Blight Curse, a Black, Red and  Green deck that combines Boggarts (Lorwyn’s equivalent of Goblins) with deadly -1/-1 counter that can sap away the strength of the opponents’ creatures.

Each Lorwyn Eclipsed Bundle contains nine play boosters, alongside a selection of lands, and spin down life counter. They’re great for players who want to get a collection going, but don’t feel quite ready to buy an entire box.

All Lorwyn Eclipsed Bundles will also contain an exclusive alternative art rare card, though just what that card may be is currently as unknown and mysterious as the wilds of Lorwyn themselves.

New Innovations

The set also introduces two new product lines that offer accessible entry points into fun ways of playing Magic: the Gathering.

A Lorwyn Eclipsed Draft Night box gives you everything you need to host your very own pick 2-draft, a new way of playing the game introduced in the Spider-Man crossover. It contains 12 play boosters, enough for four players, and a collector booster that can be used as a prize. There are 90 lands in here, so there’ll be plenty to go around.

Theme decks
are a new on-ramp to the Standard format that are rolling out with Lorwyn Eclipsed. Both of the decks other very different strategies based around popular creature types.

The red and blue Pirates deck focuses on putting together a swashbuckling crew to sail into battle against your opponent. Meanwhile, the green and white Angel Deck, headlined by the ever-popular commander Giada, Font of Hope soars over the opposition and delivers celestial judgement upon them.

Both of these decks are playable as they are, but they can also be customised and upgraded into real powerhouses.
