Fan of the Month – October: A Spooky Card Collection with a Jirachi Twist

Hi! So glad to be able to share just a small part of my growing collection! Tell us about you, your collection and your favourite spooky card/cards So my collection is very much just a mash up of random packs I've opened over the past year or so as a new collector. One of my favourite spooky cards I own is definitely the Lost Origin Banette. With all the talk of mega sets, I hope we get a really cool Mega Banette card in the future!

So my collection is very much just a mash up of random packs I've opened over the past year or so as a new collector. One of my favourite spooky cards I own is definitely the Lost Origin Banette. With all the talk of mega sets, I hope we get a really cool Mega Banette card in the future!
What do you like most about the spooky themed pokemon/pokemon cards?
So purple is my favourite colour so that definitely is a part of it. But also I'm still deep in the "Its not a phase mum" so I just really love these darker cards!
When did you start collecting and do you remember your very first big hit card or pack? What was it?
So I'm a fairly new collector. I had a lot of cards from when I was a kid, but only really got into properly collecting at the end of 2024. I still remember my first ever SIR pull, which was the bootychu! I still cant believe it to this day.
What’s your absolute favourite card in your collection and why does it mean so much to you?
So this is the opposite of a spooky card, but anyone who knows me knows I am the certified #1 Jirachi enjoyer. My favourite is the Amazing Rare Jirachi from Vivid Voltage, and was my first Jirachi card that urged me to start my full English card Jirachi collection! Also they just look so cute and determined in the art work!
What’s the crown jewel of your spooky card collection, the rarest or most valuable card you own?
Again the Banette is my favourite, but also the Trainer Gallery Mimikyu is definitely up there. Its the perfect mixture of cute and creepy!
How do you store or display your collection, are you more binder-organised or shoebox chaos?
My organisation skills would leave collectors crying. I will binder all my favourite cards and ones that are worth a pretty penny, but otherwise my bulk is relegated to various old etbs/tins/mini tins scattered around my room...
Do you play the Pokémon TCG, collect only, or dabble in both?
Mostly collector only, the closest ive got to playing is TCG Pocket. But learning the TCG is definitely something I want to do in the future
Do you have a favourite Pokémon artist or card artwork that really stands out to you?
There's too many talented artists to choose from! But one of my favourite card artworks are the gold cards from Crown Zenith (I'm definitely not bias as a Gen IV enjoyer)
Are there any cards you're currently chasing or a dream grail card on your wishlist?
My current chase card is the prerelease staff promo of Jirachi for my collection and my dream grail is the Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX from Cosmic Eclipse (surprise surprise, another Gen IV trio)
What's your favourite modern Pokémon set and why?
OHO BOY. Anyone who has had the joy of speaking to me will soon find out I am OBSESSED with Journey Together - to an unhealthy level. Did I just open a booster box when I'm only missing 4 cards? Absolutely! I love cards that have trainers with their Pokemon, and the art and colours across the set is too great. I think the set is so overlooked due to the sets that released around it, but I hope more people come to appreciate how great the set really is. I'm going all in on this set, promos and all!
