"I'm Not Obsessed. Promise." Meet ScuffedKath, Collector of Every Togepi Card in Existence
Posted by Magic Madhouse on 16th Apr 2026
Togepi has always stood out to me because of its adorable, often underrated, innocent energy. Ever since seeing it alongside Misty in the anime, it just always brought me happiness — plus, Togepi stands for good luck, so I'm hoping it brought that with some of the pulls in more recent sets! It's not my favourite Pokémon because it's the strongest, but it’s the charm, and that’s why they've stuck with me.
Tell us about you, your collection and what makes it special
I'm Kath, or ScuffedKath to most!
I’ve always been a collector of things. It actually began as Beanie Babies (TY), to Pokémon and then to Digimon! My whole collection is all about the nostalgia and the stories behind each card and plushie.
My collection isn’t just about value — it’s a mix of childhood memories, plushies, and cards I’ve hunted down over time. What makes it special to me is the personal journey behind it—every binder page and every Togepi plush reminds me of a different stage of my life.
Why is Togepi your favourite Pokémon?
My dad first bought me a 'talking' Togepi plush when I was very young! I've had this with me ever since, it still works to this day!

When did you start collecting and do you remember your very first big hit card or pack? What was it?
I started collecting when I was younger alongside my older brother, like a lot of people, but really got back into it more seriously in the last 10 years (adult money!). My first big hit was shared with my dad and brother, the base set Charizard!! (we still have that exact original base set!) Then we went on to Jungle, Fossil and Rocket.
What’s your absolute favourite card in your collection and why does it mean so much to you?
My favourite card is my 1st Edition Togepi card (51/111) from Neo Gensis. I wouldn't trade that card for anything! It may be priceless to some, but it means the world to me.
How do you store or display your collection, are you more binder-organised or shoebox chaos?
Definitely more on the organised side. I like using binders to keep things clean, sorted, and easy to look through. All of my holo/rare Togepi cards have been graded and are on display in my games room.
The non-holo others are awaiting grading! Kept within Togepi sleeves in my Togepi deck box... I'm not obsessed. Promise.
Do you play the Pokémon TCG, collect only, or dabble in both?
I’d say I dabble in both. I play Pokémon TCG Live, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon TCG Pocket, but my main focus is definitely collecting. I really enjoy building out full sets and appreciating the artwork, so collecting is where most of my time (and money) goes.
Do you have a favourite Pokémon artist or card artwork that really stands out to you?
One that really stands out to me is the 88/106 Togepi card in great encounters, is Ken Sugimori. I love it so much, It's currently tattooed on my arm!
There’s something really soft and peaceful about the artwork—it perfectly captures Togepi’s personality. It feels more like a little story than just a card, which is why it’s always stuck with me.
Are there any cards you're currently chasing or a dream grail card on your wishlist?
I currently have every English Togepi card in existence (not all in PSA 10's..) but my current chase is completing my Japanese and Koreon Togepi collection! Whilst the artworks are the same, I have a dream of owning every Togepi card in existence (minus the tag team)
What's your favourite modern Pokémon set and why?
I tend to lean more toward sets with a strong artistic identity, which is why I really appreciate collections like the Southern Islands promo set from 1999/2000. The whole tropical theme and the way it was originally released in themed folders to promote Pokémon: The Movie 2000 makes it feel really unique and collectible.
My favourite modern set would have to be Phantasmal Flames, although no Togepi... It was so much fun to master!
Do you have any card storage hacks, tips, or advice for fellow collectors?
Always sleeve your cards straight away, especially your hits. Even use sleeve in your binders! When using binders, use ones with good-quality pages, avoid overfilling them, and keep everything in a cool, dry place.
And most importantly, collect what you genuinely enjoy, not just what’s trending!
Do you share your collection online? If so, where can people follow you and what’s your handle?
I share parts of it but mostly on Instagram! I like to stream opening new sets on Twitch, Kick and YouTube. You can follow me as @ScuffedKath on all platforms!
