The New Magic: the Gathering Sets of 2027 Have Been Announced

2027 looks to be a stacked year, with underwater adventures, epic mech fights, and a triumphant tour of Zhalfir.
Last weekend was MagicCon Amsterdam, because of this we've now been shown every in-universe MTG expansion for 2027. Here's what to expect from the most magical card game in the multiverse next year...
Last weekend was MagicCon Amsterdam. This grand MTG spectacle brought in Magic: the Gathering players from across the world to compete, trade cards, and just hang out and catch some Commander games.
MagicCons have plenty to offer even for players who don't attend them, though. Wizards of the Coast uses conventions like these to grant the world previews of their upcoming sets. Because of this, we've now been shown every in-universe MTG expansion for 2027. Here's what to expect from the most magical card game in the multiverse next year...
Nauctis: The Sunken Realms
Not to be confused with Noctis from the Final Fantasy crossover, Nauctis is Magic: the Gathering's very first underwater world.
Nauctis promises to be unique, as it will be a set where the flying mechanic is completely absent. The game's designers have promised players an alternative evasive mechanic to take flying's typical place, but just how that will end up playing out is currently a mystery.
Despite all of the action happening deep beneath the waves, Nauctis is more than just a monoblue set. The set's designers have talked about how they integrated the rest of Magic's colour pie into the world, with aquatic kelp forests representing green, and the depths of the deep oceanic abyss representing black.
Kamigawa: Titanbreach
Kamigawa is a futuristic plane inspired by Japanese culture, where mech pilots wow spectators with their incredible skills. Ikoria, meanwhile, is a brutal survivalist world where colossal monsters roam the land. In Kamigawa: Titanbreach, these two radically different settings will violently collide in a mechs vs monsters mash up.
None of the mechanics from the set have been revealed just yet, but if the past is any indication, the monsters on Ikoria will be mutating in order to grow ever larger, while Kamigawa will give us some formidable vehicles and mech suits to crew up and send into combat against them.
Zhalfir
This Afrofantasy plane has been a part of MTG since the 1990s, and it's about to step back into the spotlight. Zhalfir is the homeland of the time mage Teferi. Initially a nation on the plane of Dominaria, Zhalfir was later phased out of existence, but returned in dramatic fashion during the climax of the war against Phyrexia in the set March of the Machine.
Inspired by a vibrant variety of different African cultures, Zhalfir is a land with a rich history and a vast tapestry of traditions. We don't know any of the upcoming mechanics that will appear here, but since Teferi is going to feature in the set, there might be just a splash of time magic.
There's More Magic to Come

This isn't everything that 2027 has to offer, though. There will be another three MTG expansions coming out next year, each of which will be a 'universes beyond' product, crossing MTG over with another series. Will we be seeing more Marvel characters, or something altogether new? Who knows what to expect?
