Most Expensive Cards In Disney Lorcana's Azurite Sea

Most Expensive Cards In Disney Lorcana's Azurite Sea

Posted by Magic Madhouse on 29th Nov 2024

For Disney Lorcana’s next set, we’re setting sail on the Azurite Sea for a swashbuckling adventure. This set includes tons of new and returning Disney characters and incredibly powerful cards, but knowing which ones you’ll want to run in your decks is still half the fun of Lorcana. Azurite Sea is causing lots of excitement for a few reasons. Not only is it one of the most thematic sets we’ve ever had, with an out-and-out pirate theme that allows for some very cool designs, it’s also introducing characters from Big Hero Six and Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers! To get ready for the launch on November 25, here’s everything you need to know about Azurite Sea.

Top 5 Cards To Watch In Azurite Sea

When setting sail into the Azurite Sea, there are a few cards you need to keep an eye out for.

Tiana, Restaurant Owner

Keeping your characters in play is crucial for success in Lorcana, and fortunately the new Storyborn Princess Tiana, Restaurant Owner can help with that. As long as she’s exerted (which, with her lore value of two, will be a lot), any of your opponents’ challenging characters will have their strength reduced by three.

This is perfect for keeping your pieces in play, as challenging is easily the most common method for removing questers and locations. And at a cost of three ink, she also fits nicely into Steelsong decks to sing some of the best songs in the whole game.

Maui, Half-Shark

The demigod of the sea is back with another absolutely wild legendary card. With Half-Shark, you can just keep returning action cards to your hand through challenging, opening yourself up to all sorts of combos and – more importantly – easy access to targeted removal when you need it.

On top of all that, he can passively build up lore for each action you play, giving Lorcana a spellslinger-style deck that could be a big threat if not answered quickly.

Sugar Rush Speedway, Finish Line

After a strong showing at recent Lorcana events, location decks are on everybody’s mind. That makes Sugar Rush Speedway, Finish Line the key that could unlock all those location-hopping dreams, as it offers easy card draw and lots of lore just by moving a character to it.

Throw a few of these out for the cheap cost of two mana each, then move from one to the other for one lore, and you’ll be gaining a mountain of card advantage and running away with the game before your opponent can do anything about it. Throw in a Transport Pod, and you won’t even have to pay the move costs!

Oswald, The Lucky Rabbit

Oswald is a great card for item decks, turning each ink you play into a chance to play an item for free – cheating some of the biggest and scariest into play way ahead of time if you’re lucky, or if you’ve found a way to filtre your deck just right.

However, Oswald is more important than just a card. Oswald has been a heavily requested character since Lorcana’s debut, as he served as the mascot of Disney before Mickey Mouse. His arrival in Azurite Sea has been an incredibly long time coming, and his retro, black-and-white art certainly stands out from the rest of the set.

Bellwether, Assistant Mayor

An uncommon card being this good is… well… uncommon. Whenever you put a card into your inkwell, you make an opponent’s character reckless. This means they have to challenge if possible, and can’t quest, which is enough to cause havoc.

Of course, they could exert for other reasons and avoid having to challenge, but if you can get something big enough of your own exerted, your opponent’s characters will crash against it and take themselves out. Pick key pieces, value engines, or just that annoying character you can’t work around, and as long as you don’t exert Bellwether, there’s little they can do about it.

Stategic Synergies And Gameplay Tips

While Azurite Sea could introduce all kinds of new strategies and decks we haven’t even imagined yet, there are two that are immediately standing out.

Locations

The end of the Shimmering Skies season saw a new deck archetype finally take off, with Locations. Playing lots of Locations can produce huge amounts of passive lore gain, enable powerful effects, and synergies. Fortunately, it looks like Azurite Sea is just going to take things up a notch.

Thanks to Transport Pod, you’ll now be able to move characters between locations for free each turn. As mentioned, you could pair it up with Sugar Rush Speedway, but there are also cards like Flotilla, Institute of Technology, or Rattigan’s Party that all get you lore each turn. Locations are also very hard to remove, as there’s little targeted removal for them yet, making it a tough deck to deal with.

Lucky Dime Decks

Lucky Dime from Into The Inklands has been a huge threat ever since it was first printed, and now it can easily set up combos that can win you the game in a single, explosive turn. And it’s all thanks to a tiny, one-ink Action called Prepare Your Bot.

Prepare Your Bot does some stuff with Robots, but the important bit is that it can ready a chosen item. With that, you can have a character with a large lore, hit it with a lucky dime twice, and then have it quest for a total gain of three times its value. Azurite Sea also introduced a new Floodborn Rafiki, Ethereal Guide that has a whopping four lore value already, or you could use the new Good Job! action to buff something further before Lucky Dime pops off.

Collector’s Corner: Rare And Unique Cards

Of course, while Lorcana is an excellent game, each set also introduces new cards collectors will be desperate to get their hands on. A new set means a new roster of enchanted rare cards, and these are some of the most visually distinct we’ve ever seen.

For Azurite Sea, every enchanted card follows the treasure map theme, with sepia colours and sketchy art styles that really stick out. My personal favourite of this is Rafiki, Ethereal Guide and Tigger, In The Crow’s Nest, for their fantastic expressions. However, there are also cards like Chip ‘n Dale, Recovery Rangers; You Came Back; Tiana, Restaurant Owner; and Treasure Mountain to offer cards that could both be the top of the meta and be worth a pretty penny in their enchanted forms.

Where to Purchase Disney Lorcana Azurite Sea Cards

Azurite Sea will be available in a few different ways when it launches.

The first are the usual Booster Boxes and Illumineer’s Troves, which include a hearty booty of booster packs for you to rip open. Alternatively, you could spring for one of the two starter decks for this set: either the Amber/Ruby deck with Jim Hawkins and Tigger, or the Emerald/Sapphire deck starring Go Go Tomago and Gadget Hackwrench.

But alongside these offerings is a new gift set based on everyone’s favourite alien experience, Stitch. This gift includes four assorted booster packs and four Azurite Sea packs alongside a Stitch, Alien Buccaneer promo card, and a Stitch folder featuring his various arts from across Lorcana’s history that you can store all your cards in.

Azurite Sea is proof that Lorcana has managed to ride the wave and go from the hot new thing to a solid and popular TCG that’s here to stay. Make sure you get your backs, Troves, and more on Magic Madhouse today!
