The MTG Marvel Commander precons are bringing the power of iconic Marvel characters to multiplayer Magic: The Gathering. The four new 100-card decks have a mixture of new-to-Magic cards designed for Commander, and classic reprints all with new artwork from the Marvel Universe. They launch on June 26, 2026 with two available editions: Standard and Collector's.

In short: The MTG Marvel Commander precons are four new 100-card Commander decks launching on 26 June 2026, each featuring a different Marvel Universe faction: the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Wakanda, and Doctor Doom. Each deck contains 30 brand-new cards, plus classic reprints with new Marvel artwork. Two editions are available: Standard and Collector's, with the Collector's Edition printed entirely in Surge Foil.

The four decks:

  • Avengers Assemble (Jeskai, white/blue/red) — Equipment and Hero typal, led by Captain America Team Leader with Nick Fury as an alternative commander.
  • Doom Prevails (Grixis, blue/black/red) — Connive and life-drain, led by Doctor Doom, King of Latveria.
  • Fantastic Four (WURG, four-colour) — Non-creature spells matter, with any of Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, or The Thing as commander.
  • Wakanda Forever (Selesnya, white/green) — Artifact synergy focused on Monarch and Vibranium tokens, led by Black Panther.

New mechanics introduced include Power Up, Plans, and Team Work, plus new Hero and Villain card types.

The MTG Marvel Commander precons are bringing the power of iconic Marvel characters to multiplayer Magic: The Gathering. They launch on June 26, 2026 with two available editions: Standard and Collector's.

The MTG Marvel Commander precons are among the most anticipated Commander decks ever made, featuring fan favourites from the Marvel Universe. There are four new decks in total, featuring the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakanda, and Doctor Doom, releasing on June 26, 2026.

Each deck has 30 brand-new cards per deck, including the debut of Hero and Villain cards. Collectors can also get their hands on the Collector’s Edition, featuring Surge Foil treatments on every card and token.

It’s also worth noting that we’ve seen some cool new mechanics in ‘Power Up’ (which provides a one-off effect for a cost), ‘Plans’ (a new enhancement type), and ‘Team Work’ (which lets you boost spells by tapping creators), however it’s not yet confirmed to what extent these are featured in the Commander decks.

Let’s take a closer look at each of the four new MTG Marvel Superheroes pre-con decks.

Avengers Assemble: Red, White, and Blue Heroics

The Avengers’ deck being red, white and blue – the patriotic ‘Jeskai’ colours of the deck’s primary commander, Captain America, Team Leader, is just perfect. This deck is all about Equipment and Counters (which makes sense, seeing as Captain America is famous for his shield). Nick Fury is an interesting second commander option.

The ‘hero’ creature type really matters here too, which is perfect for a deck that’s all about representing Marvel’s greatest collection of heroes.

Doom Prevails: Mastering the Grixis Villains

From Nicol Bolas to Sauron, Grixis has often been the colour of villains in MTG, so it makes sense that the ‘villain-focused’ deck is black, red, blue. There’s a strong ‘connive’ theme, which provides additional life-drain as Doctor Doom, King of Latveria, the deck’s commander, provides.

The Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four deck does something really clever, giving all four members a ‘WURG’ colour identity, meaning players can choose whoever they like to be their Commander from Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, or The Thing, all of which who also united by a ‘non-creature spells matter’ ability.

The upgrading potential for this deck is huge, and really depends on which direction you want to take it in terms of the commander.

Wakanda Forever: Unique Archetypes

Wakanda Forever led by Black Panther puts the spotlight on one of my favorite mechanics in ‘Monarch’, while also creating Vibranium artifact tokens.

Monarch can have complexity, as well as politics, in deciding who the monarch will be, and who can attack who – leading to all kinds of machinations and deal-making. The Vibranium provides a semi-ramp strategy too, ramping into huge artifacts.
