Posted by Magic Madhouse on 11th May 2026

MTG Marvel Superheroes previews, leaks and official news has shown us that the set introduces two new mechanics: Power Up, a once-per-game ability that costs less when used the turn a creature enters, and Plan, an enchantment that builds counters through gameplay actions before triggering a powerful one-time effect.

In short: Magic: The Gathering's second full Universes Beyond Marvel crossover set, Marvel Super Heroes, focuses on all of Marvel’s history, unlike Spider-Man which came before it.

It introduces the new Power Up and Plan mechanics and legendary creatures including Doctor Doom, Thor, T’Challa, Namor, Galactus, Quicksilver.

Products include: Play Boosters, Collector Boosters and four new Commander decks. It Releases 26 June 2026 (prerelease June 19).

What is MTG Marvel Super Heroes?

MTG Marvel Super Heroes releases June 26 2026 as a full, Standard-legal Universes Beyond expansion featuring iconic Marvel Legendary creatures. Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, and four Commander decks are available to pre-order now at Magic Madhouse.

Key New Mechanics Explained

MTG Marvel Superheroes previews, leaks and official news has shown us that the set introduces two new mechanics: Power Up, a once-per-game ability that costs less when used the turn a creature enters, and Plan, an enchantment that builds counters through gameplay actions before triggering a powerful one-time effect.

More specifically, Power Up appears on creatures, can be used only once, and is discounted by the creature's mana cost if it entered this turn. It’s an interesting ‘kicker’ variant that adds more flexibility to an ‘enters’ ability, i.e. enabling you to play the creature even if the Power Up effect isn’t relevant yet.

Plan is an enchantment subtype that accumulates ‘plan’ counters through specific game actions. Once the plan has the required amount of counters, it's sacrificed and delivers a big pay off. It seems that Doctor Doom’s commander deck is based around Plans.

It’s also just worth noting Boost appears in the set too as a returning mechanic, which enables you to activate an ability if that creature attacked this turn.

That’s what we know right now. Keep your eyes peeled for more MTG marvel superheroes leaks and previews for more details on the new and returning mechanics.

Our Top MTG Marvel Super Heroes Card Picks

Whether you can resist those MTG Marvel Superhero leaks or not, there are some really great looking cards out there to get excited about. From those that are confirmed, some have real Commander playability, others have collectors appeal and potential some real financial value. Let’s take a look at some based on confirmed spoilers ahead of the full card list released in June

  • Doctor Doom, King of Latveria – Doctor Doom is a Grixis (UBR), 4-mana Legendary creature who hits each opponent for 2 life whenever you discard one or more land cards. He synergies well with any kind of self-discard, e.g. cycling or looting, and also can make a villain connive to trigger his discard ability while powering through your deck. The doctor will be in demand for both players and collectors
  • Thor, Guardian of Midgard – Thor converts noncombat damage into card advantage, which is an inherent weakness of red. Thor has strong mono red ‘burn’ commander possibilities
  • T’Challa, the Black Panther – T’Challa creates indestructible Vibranium artifact tokens, which are mana rocks for artifacts and very desirable in Commander. Seems strong in a green/white artifacts deck, and strong collector appeal too
  • Namor the Sub-Mariner – Clearly a strong card across formats, it has synergies with one of the most popular creature types (Merfolk). I’d expect this guy to be very popular, so keep an eye out for its price – if you want a copy, it might be worth a pre-order
  • Galactus - High-mana Commander bomb with massive board presence. An iconic character like this drives collector demand independent of competitive playability.
  • Quicksilver – Quicksilver as a unique “starts the game in play” mechanic which had ‘red deck wins’ written all over it for Standard play

Based on confirmed spoilers, Doctor Doom, Thor, T’Challa, and Namor are the strongest early picks from MTG Marvel Super Heroes, combining new mechanics with high Commander demand and collector appeal ahead of the June 26 2026 release.

Singles or Sealed — What to Buy from Marvel Super Heroes

For Commander players, buying singles like Doctor Doom or T’Challa is more cost-efficient than opening packs. For collectors seeking alt-art and serialised chase cards, pre-ordering a Collector Booster Box secures your allocation before the June 26 release.

To expand further, if you want to build a specific deck, for example a new Commander deck with some of the cool new legends, buying singles is definitely the way to go, especially as you’ll need some older cards too.

You can also get one of the new Commander decks to play out of the box or customise. Doom Prevails Commander Deck centres on Doctor Doom and the Plan mechanic; Wakanda Forever has T’Challa and Vibranium artifact synergies. Both available to pre-order at Magic Madhouse.

But if you just love the set and want to crack some packs, either to collect or maybe to play some draft or sealed, you want sealed product. If you’re especially interested in alt-art and serialised cards, a Marvel Super Heroes Collector Booster Box is the way to go.
