It’s time to pack your school bags wizards, because this April we’re heading back to the wizard school of Strixhaven! Strixhaven MTG 2026 has its table top release on 24 April 2026, and takes us back to the plane of Arccavios. Pick your favourite school, and get ready to battle.
What is the Strixhaven MTG 2026 expansion?
Secret of Strixhaven is one of the major standard-legal expansion sets releasing in 2026. It’s a plane we’ve been to before, first with the eponymous Strixhaven, and then, in part as part of the March of the Machines saga and Phyrexian invasion. This time, we’re returning to the world of wizard colleges and elder dragons with the promise of exploring the wider plane of Arccavios, beyond the books.
The school of Strixhaven has five colleges, each founded by an elder dragon and having two colour combination:
- Lorehold, red and white
- Prismari, blue and red
- Quandrix, green and blue
- Silverquill, white and black
- Witherbloom, black and green
From the mtg strixhaven spoilers we’ve seen, it’s clear these colleges are back, and it’s very likely that the set’s limited environment will be based around these colour pairs. We’ll know for sure when the set releases in April, when it’ll also become legal in the 2026 Standard format.

Latest MTG Strixhaven spoilers and card highlights
We’re fortunate to have seen a few of the new set’s cards already, and they look really cool:
- Lorehold, the Historian – wow, what a dragon this is. Honestly, I can’t remember when I was this excited to make a new Commander deck! Lorehold gives all instant and sorceries in your hand miracle two – allowing you to cheat the cost on some massive spells. Not only that, but the dragon has an inbuilt enabler on your opponent’s turn, allowing extra ways to miracle those spells in. I love it
- Mathemagics – look, when it comes to subjects, I’m an English guy, maths was never my thing. That means I don’t entirely get this card, but I know it’s going to draw a load of cards. Besides, math is for blockers, right?!
- Stock Up – what some players believe is one of the best draw spells of all time returns in the mystical archive!
Legendary Creatures & Commanders
We’ve seen little of the cards in the main set, but we have seen the Commanders in the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander set. Quintorius, History Chaser is an interesting card that makes tokens when cards leave the graveyard, possibly suggesting a reanimator theme, or flashback/delve type interactions. Zimone, Infinite Analyst is an interesting card for ‘X’ spells matter and/or +1/+1 tokens.
The Mystical Archive Return
Rejoice, the Mystical Archive returns! Featuring reprints of some of the strongest and most iconic spells in the game, the Mystical Archive provides both much needed reprints, plus offers up some really interesting Limited play experiences. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s included this time…
