On 14/07/2026, Wizards of the Coast gave Magic: the Gathering players across the world their first look at the upcoming MTG Star Trek crossover. A selection of cards from the upcoming Sci-Fi set have been shown off from Captain Kirk to The Starship Enterprise itself. Let's take a look at what's on offer once we cross the final frontier.

Signature Cards

The Captain James T. Kirk Autograph Card.

The Star Trek set is offering something new and unique, which no MTG set has ever featured before. A very rare number of Collector Boosters will feature 'autograph cards'. These exclusive game pieces are signed by the original actors who played the characters featured on the card in one of the Star Trek TV shows.

Currently, it has been confirmed that there will be a Captain James T Kirk card signed by William Shatner, and a Captain Kathryn Janeway card featuring Kate Mulgrew's signature.

Sci-Fi Shocklands

The LCARS variant of the card Hallowed Fountain

The Star Trek universe features a sweeping expanse of different worlds. To represent the wide diversity of the Star Trek cosmos, Magic: the Gathering is reprinting the 10 Shock Lands in the set, each of which shows off a unique biome on a distant planet.

Not only are the Shock Lands coming back, but they're also receiving a new art treatment. The 'Library Computer Access/Retrieval System' or 'LCARS' is the operating system employed by Federation computer systems in Star Trek: The Next Generation. These new full art LCARS Shock Lands are displayed as though they are an image popping up on an LCARS monitor. This brings a slice of federation technology into the 21st century.

Episodic Sagas

The card 'The City on the Edge of Forever' from the MTG Star Trek set.

Ever since they first debuted in the set Dominaria back in 2018, Sagas have been a great way of showing off stories on Magic: the Gathering cards. In the Star Trek expansion, several sagas will be included that will allow players to reenact their favourite episodes.

Currently, sagas representing the episodes In the Pale Moonlight, The City on the Edge of Forever, and Amok Time have been previewed. When the full set releases, who knows how many classic stories you might be able to reenact?

Spacecraft Strategies

The card U.S.S. Enterprise-D from the upcoming MTG Star Trek crossover.

Spacecrafts first appeared in MTG in the 2025 set Edge of Eternities. Perhaps unsurprisingly, they're making a triumphant return in the Star Trek Crossover, including the Starship Enterprise itself as represented on the card: U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Galaxy-Class.

The Enterprise exiles cards from the top of your deck as it gains energy counters, allowing you to play them. Thematically, the card is boldly venturing out into the unknown by revealing hidden cards from your library to you.

If you're a real spacecraft aficionado, then the Federation Fleet Commander deck is all about assembling an intergalactic armada and exploring everything that's possible with space travel.

A Cosmic Conclusion

The Star Trek set releases in November of this year. If you just can't wait to voyage beyond the stars, though, pre-orders are currently live, so you can be ready to hop aboard the Enterprise as soon as possible.
