A Guide To The Art Treatments of the MTG The Hobbit Set

Now books and boosters can come together with these book cover treatment cards that you'll find in The Hobbit packs, each of which is designed to look like a classic fantasy paperback. These bookish singles are available in both Play and Collector Boosters.

Magic cards are printed in all sorts of languages, including fictional languages like Phyrexian. The Hobbit contains a suite of cards printed in authentic Tolkienian Dwarven runic script. Each of these cards is a reprint drawn from Magic's history, and they're only available inside Collector Boosters.

Each of these beautiful borderless cards was initially printed in Tales of Middle-Earth back in 2023. They have made a return now as box toppers for The Hobbit Play Booster Boxes, and they also show up inside Collector Boosters.

These The Hobbit Scene cards form panoramas when you bring them together and connect their artwork, allowing you to recreate iconic moments from the book. You can watch the Battle of Five Armies unfold, as well as Gandalf and Thorin cleaving their way out of Goblin Town. Some of these Scene Cards show up in booster packs, while others (which depict the treasures of Smaug, and Bilbo hosting Thorin's company at Bag End) are exclusive to scene boxes..

Every new MTG set features full art lands to help players get immersed in the fantastical worlds that they will be exploring. The Hobbit contains two separate treatments for basic lands. There are 'journey lands' which depict Bilbo and company traversing Middle-Earth on their quest to reach the Lonely Mountain, and there are 'seasonal lands' which depict a cozy hobbit hole in the Shire gradually changing, as the weather shifts, over the course of a year. Journey lands show up in both Play and Collector Boosters, while seasonal lands are available exclusively in Prerelease Packs, Bundles, and Gift Bundles.

Only approximately 500 copies of this glittering variant of Smaug the Magnificent have been printed globally. That makes it the rarest card in the set. These gold coloured dragons have been hidden in Collector Boosters worldwide.
