Paldea Evolved Mini Overview

It’s time to head back to Paldea, with the next expansion in the new era, Scarlet & Violet: Paldea Evolved. As the name suggests, this expansion builds off the foundations set by Scarlet & Violet, and gives us more of what has made this new region so exciting already!

The big thing from this expansion is ex Pokemon have finally fit their full, terrastalising potential! While we did see ex Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet, this expansion goes in deeper on the mechanic, with lots of powerful ex Pokemon to drop into play. Just like before, ex Pokemon are much more powerful versions of the Pokemon you know and love, but in return they cost you two prize cards if they got knocked out.

However, unlike last time, Paldea Evolved uses ex to change up Pokemon’s types for the first time. For instance, Clodsire ex takes the Water/Poison type and makes it Dark, while Dedenne ex turns this little Electric type into a Psychic one. These let you really surprise your opponent by dropping Pokemon they wouldn’t expect in your deck, and it’s likely this is going to be a running theme throughout the entire Scarlet & Violet era!

It isn’t just starters that make Paldea Evolved so exciting, though. We’ve got the four Treasures of Ruin legendary Pokemon (Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu, and Chi-Yu) putting in an appearance to add some rare, powerful spice to your collection. There’s also plenty of your favourite characters from the games, like Grusha, Iono, Giacomo, and Mr. Saguro as trainer cards, and, of course, dozens of full-art Secret Rare cards to collect.
