Mewtwo Returns with a Competitive-Ready League Battle Deck

Sure, cracking packs is fun, but if you really want to get into the Pokemon TCG, one of the best ways to start is by picking up a League Battle Deck. As well as giving you access to some great cards, they’re fully built 60-card decks you can shuffle up and play out of the box. The latest of these decks features the return of Mewtwo in a gnarly deck full of ex Pokemon, key staples, and an Ace Spec card you’re not going to want to miss.
What Makes This Deck Stand Out?
As mentioned, Battle Decks are preconstructed decks ready and raring to go for competitive play. The Mewtwo ex Battle Deck features a few things that help it stand out even amongst other battle decks, though.
The first thing are two of its key Pokemon. The deck features three copies of Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex, and two of Team Rocket’s Crobat ex. Mewtwo is impressive for its Erasure Ball attack, which can deal up to 280 damage - enough to take out meta leaders like Gholdengo ex and Genesect ex with ease.
Meanwhile, Crobat ex is a great way of dealing damage to your opponents’ Pokemon from the bench, as its Biting Spree ability lets you put damage on up to two of them every time it evolves. And it’s likely going to be evolving a lot, thanks to Assassin’s Return dealing damage and then bouncing Crobat back to your hand.
The other card to be excited for, and one I’ll get more in to in a bit, is Scramble Switch ACE SPEC. ACE SPECs are powerful game changers, and Scramble Switch is definitely one you’re going to want to keep an eye on.
Full Contents Breakdown
In the box for the Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex League Battle Deck, you’ll find a few things:
- A 60-card deck, playable straight from the box
- Six dice for counting damage
- Two coins for tracking conditions like poison or sleep
- An exclusive coin
- A sheet explaining how to play the deck in more detail
- A box to keep the deck in
- A code to play the deck on Pokemon TCG Live
Keep in mind that the code included in this is specifically for TCG Live, and not for the mobile game TCG Pocket. You’d be surprised how often that trips new players up.
But with this, you have everything you need to get started playing the Pokemon TCG, and even a way to test it out online first. The only thing you’re missing are card sleeves and a playmat to keep your cards safe, but don’t worry; Magic Madhouse has got those.
The Power Of The Scramble Switch ACE SPEC
And now for the heavy hitter: Scramble Switch ACE SPEC. ACE SPECs are among the most powerful cards in the Pokemon TCG, with potentially game-ending effects that come with one major caveat: you can only have a single ACE SPEC card in your deck.
Scramble Switch lets you swap your active Pokemon with one in your bench, while also putting all the Energy cards on the leaving Pokemon with the one coming in. Effectively, you get to build up your Pokemon before swapping it out for a heavy-hitter, already primed and ready to wreak havoc.
This deck sees the first reprint of Scramble Switch in the Scarlet & Violet era, having last been seen in Surging Sparks. And with the H regulation mark, it reenters the Standard format with this deck, making it well worth picking up even if you’re just going to tear it apart straight away.
Who Should Pick Up This Deck?
Honestly, if you’re at all interested the Pokemon TCG, it’s something you’re going to want to get your hands on.
If you’re a new player, the Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex League Battle Deck is a great way to throw yourself in. There’s no point worrying about how to build a deck when you’re just learning how to play, but this also gives you a decent amount of power to play with over a basic beginner product.
On the other hand, it’s the reprints that are going to make this worthwhile for veterans. Scramble Switch alone is a big deal, but with five ex cards in the deck and a ton of staples to go with them, those wanting to pick it up to take apart for their other decks are going to be just fine.
Or maybe you’re a collector? The Team Rocket theme of this deck gives it a flair we don’t often see from decks, and with Mewtwo being one of the most popular Pokemon out there, a whole deck devoted to it is sure to get some collectors excited as well.
Release Date And How To Get It
Fortunately, you don’t have to wait long for the Mewtwo ex League Battle Deck, as it goes on sale on November 28, for £29.99.
Make sure you add it to your wishlist, so you can quickly get to it as soon as it goes on sale - like most Pokemon TCG releases, you can expect the demand for this one to be high!
Other Decks To Explore
If you want to pick up other decks ahead of Mewtwo, take a look at the Gardevoir ex and Dragapult ex League Battle Decks.
These are the other two currently available decks from the Scarlet & Violet era, ensuring you have a great experience playing with them, and also a hefty amount of cards you can use to build your first Standard decks.
