Riftbound Unleashed was unleashed upon the world on the 8th May 2026. It’s the latest explosive set in Riftbound, the official League of Legends card game. Let’s dart into the brush and see what this powerful new set is hiding.

What is Riftbound Unleashed? Set Overview

With the tagline “Power strikes from the shadows”, Unleashed is a set that’s all about the Jungle, the space in between lanes in League of Legends. In the Jungle, hunters, monster slayers, and stealthy assassins lie in wait for the perfect opportunity to leap into the fray and take out unsuspecting opponents.

Not only are there champions lurking in the jungle, but it’s also home to some truly fearsome creatures. If you’re lucky, you may just find flame spewing dragons, ferocious wild claws, and even the mighty Baron Nashor himself tucked away inside Unleashed packs.

Unleashed brings over 220 new cards to the game. It’s the third set in Riftbound’s history, following on from Origins and Spiritforged. It introduces four new mechanics: XP, Level, Hunt, and Ambush. Let’s break them all down…

New Mechanics: XP, Hunt, and Ambush

XP

Card titled

A variety of units, legends, and spells from Unleashed generate XP, which is a new type of resource. XP can be banked to level up (more on that in a moment) or spent to activate a variety of beneficial effects. If you’re hoping to make use of XP, make sure that you include a variety of cards that both generate it and allow you to spend it to gain powerful payoffs.

Level

Card featuring Wuju Master with abilities and level details.

A variety of cards in Unleashed care about your ‘level’. This simply means the amount of XP you have at that point in time. For example, Master Yi – Wuju Master gains an additional effect when you’re level 6, and another effect when you reach level 11. This just means that you need to gain 6 and 11 XP respectively. Decks that care about your level want you to generate XP, but bank it rather than spending it to gain rewards.

Hunt

Card featuring

Hunt is a mechanic that supports XP gain. When units with hunt either conquer or hold bases, you gain XP. Hunt comes at a variety of different levels. A unit with Hunt 1 gives you 1 XP for conquering or holding a base, a unit with Hunt 2 gives you 2 XP and so on. Hunt cards slot well into combat focussed XP generating decks.

Ambush

Card for

Finally, we come to Ambush. Units with Ambush can be played as a reaction, meaning that they can come into play at any time. You can use cards with Ambush to catch your opponents off guard, and quickly combat math and the control of a battlefield on the fly.

The Chase: Baron Nashor & the introduction of the Ultimate Rarity

Card featuring Baron Nashor with abilities and game mechanics description.

Unleashed introduces a whole new rarity to the game: Ultimate. Slotting in above even overnumbered cards, Ultimate cards have a deluxe full art treatment.

Currently, only a single ultimate card exists: Baron Nashor. You can find regular art versions of Baron Nashor as an epic rarity card, but the colossal monster that rules Summoner’s Rift can show off its true power in its Ultimate art treatment, which is said to appear in fewer than 1% of Unleashed booster packs.

Baron Nashor lives up to their fearsome reputation from League of Legends. With 12 might, they currently have the highest stats of any card in the game (tied with Master Yi – Unstoppable, who also debuted in Unleashed). When they enter play, they create ‘Baron Pit’, an entirely new battlefield, which they’ll dominate singlehandedly thanks to their huge stats and the fact that enemies can’t target them with spells and abilities. Baron Nashor also grants all of your other units +2 might, powering them up simply by being in play.
