As announced at the beginning of the year of Eve, the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Prismatic Evolutions Super-Premium Collection is finally upon us and I cannot wait to get my hands on all the amazing items that will come with it. As the name suggests, this product is designed to be Super collectible and to allows every fan of Eevee to continue the collection they started when Prismatic Evolutions set released at the beginning of the year. There are a lot of reasons this Premium collection is so desirable and we can review all of them together.
Premium Collection: What is it and what's inside?
Announced together with all other Pokémon Prismatic Evolutions products, the Super Premium Collection was released on the 16th of May. Considering that all products of this set have been constantly in high demand, the recommendation is always to pre-order the ones you love as early as possible, for example from Magic Madhouse website to also take advantage of the discounted price and the free shipment over £30. Considering how quickly these products fly off the shelves, you should not lose hope if you do not see any in stock and you can always exploit the handy “notify me when available” function offered by Magic Madhouse to get notified immediately when new stock will be available.
Once the order placed, you will be rewarded with an impressively well designed box fully focused around Eevee. Inside the box, Pokémon fans will find 15 Scarlet & Violet Prismatic Evolutions booster packs, 1 full-art foil promo card featuring Eevee ex, a super fun plushy Eevee deck box, and a playmat and 65 card sleeves featuring Eevee and its Evolutions. A code card for Pokémon TCG Live will also allow the players to redeem this product while playing online.
Among the items included in the Premium Collection, the deck box, the playmat, and the themed sleeves surely caught our eyes due to the beautiful artwork and the very good quality. The Eevee deck box is also the perfect complement to the Eevee pouch you may have been able to get from the Prismatic Evolutions Accessory collection. I usually love how good and thematic Pokémon TCG accessories are and this collection really offers the opportunity to bring out the best of any Eevee deck. Of course, players can also use these accessories even if they are not playing with Eevee in their deck, but it just feel better if you do...
In terms of building a deck or boosting your existing ones, the 15 Prismatic Evolution Booster packs included in the Super Premium Collection will come in handy. Each booster packs includes 10 cards out of the 180 featured in the set (131 in the core set and 49 as Special Illustration Rares). Among the cards of the set, Eevee and all its evolutions are very interesting thematically and their Illustration Rare versions are also the most valuable cards of the set. We will discuss the long term collectible value of these cards and, in general, of Prismatic Evolution set later in the content.
Roaring Moon ex, Dragapult ex, Ceruledge ex and Raging Bolt ex are also cards you should look for when opening the packs, as they have a good value from a gameplay point of view. They are also very beautiful cards although they do not have the same thematic appeal as all the Eeveelutions.
Alternate art promo Eevee Ex – A sweet little treat
One of the most interesting item inside the Premium collection is the Eevee Ex promo showing a crowned terrastallized Eevee on a shining fruit cake background. While the artwork on the card is not original, the choice of representing Eevee on such atypical background is quite surprisingly at first. Moreover, the cake in the background is very peculiar and definitely not the usual fruit cake you can buy in a restaurant.
Of course there is a story behind this card and it all started with Tsunekazu Ishihara, President & CEO of The Pokémon Company, visiting the French Restaurant Eté in Shibuya Ward. Once there, Ishihara was captivated by the “delicious and beautiful food” prepared by the Japanese Pastry Chef Natsuko Shoji, owner and chef of the restaurant and that's how the idea of a collaboration took place. While looking at the Eevee Ex card, Shoji apparently thought that the sparkling Terastal Jewels above Eevee's head looked like fruit jewellery, and therefore she decided to cut seven different types of fruit into diamond shapes to represent the Terastal Jewels for the Eevee ex card. The shaped fruits were then placed in a square box to create a very peculiar cake that has been then immortalized in the background of the card. I quite like the story behind this card although I think I will never be able to avoid thinking how good that cake looks every time I look to this special Promo card.
Is the Prismatic Evolution Super Premium Collection Worth Buying?
If you are a Pokémon fan, yes of course it is worth buying the Super-Premium collection! There are a lot of reasons this product should be a must for any Pokémon fan starting by the fact that the 15 Booster packs alone are already worth more than the RPP price of the Super Premium Collection. This is particularly true considering that all these booster packs are from the Prismatic Evolutions set released earlier this year.
As you likely know better than me, Prismatic Evolution has been a smashing hit in Pokémon TCG expansion among both players and collectors. The set is packed with a large amount of full art and special illustration rare cards, including Eevee and all its evolutions. Moreover, this expansion also introduced new Poké Ball and Master Ball foil treatments making this set even more difficult to collect. You may remember that the set was pretty much fully sold out right after release and any new re-stock does not last more than a few days. As a result, the value of the cards from Prismatic Evolutions is still very high on the secondary market with 12 single cards valued over £50 of which 6 are worth between £100 and £200. The crown jewel of the set is obviously Umbreon Ex which price has been solidly over £500 for quite a long time.
Although it may seems a great idea opening the Premium collection and the packs to find any of these amazing chase cards, Collectors should also consider to keep the product sealed. Most of the times, the value of this type of premium product increases consistently after the release. This is not only more relevant this year considering how much the demand for Pokémon products has grown but also considering the Premium collection is part of the Prismatic Evolution product line-up. We have already seen pre-orders for Prismatic Evolution Super Premium Collection at 4 or 5 times the retail price on the secondary market and we can expect sealed copies of this set to be quite valuable in the future. Personally, I would love to keep one of these set closed as an investment but I also know it will be hard to resist to not play with all those beautiful components. I wish I ordered two copies of the Super Premium Collection from Magic Madhouse....
