At the start of each game, a player is set a certain number of life points and a legal card deck of 40-60 Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. Players use their own strategy with their cards to go through several phases, hopefully reducing their opponent's life to zero in turn-based action. With so many monsters, spells and traps to work with, it’s crucial that your deck strikes the right balance between attack, defence and cunning strategy. You’re in exactly the right place to bolster your deck; explore through our entire catalogue of official Yu-Gi-Oh cards for sale, card sets, and expansions.
There are four main types of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards which form the core mechanics of the trading card game, namely: Monster, Spell, Trap and Spell Speed cards. From these different cards, you are able to effectively complete your phases and your turn. Monster cards are your main offensive tool and are used in the battle phase of your turn, attacking and defending from your opponent. Your turn will be indicated by orienting your card in a set direction, signalling the face-up attack position, face-up defence position or face-down defence position. Once per turn, players can summon one monster from their card deck in an attempt to destroy their foe. Spell cards can either power up your monsters, destroy other cards, increase HP or bring into play a plethora of other in-game mechanics, making them absolutely critical to learn for intermediate and advanced players. Trap cards are used in response to certain situations, most often depending on your opponent's activities. Trap cards can be used to destroy the attacking monster, negate battle or redirect damage. However, these cards cannot be activated during the turn in which they are laid down. Trap cards are an important facet of any player's collection as they can directly influence the focus of the game.
