3 Powerful New Typal Cards just revealed for Lorwyn Eclipsed

Posted by Magic Madhouse on 5th Jan 2026

Lorwyn Eclipsed is the newest Magic: the Gathering expansion, due to release on the 23rd January. It’s what’s known as a typal set. This means that it cares about creatures, and rewards you for playing lots of cards that share a type. Here are three great typal payoffs that have just been revealed earlier this evening.

1. Grub’s Command

Goblin players will be glad to see this incredibly versatile new sorcery. Grub’s Command can remove creatures and artifacts, clone a goblin, provide a board-wide buff, and help you dig through your deck to find Goblins that are still hiding away. As a command card, Grub’s Command lets you choose two of these effects, allowing you to pick the option that works the best, whatever the current situation might be.

2. Chronicle of Victory

Chronicle of Victory is what you get if you take Vanquisher’s Banner and make it even more intense. It grants all of the creatures you control of a specified type +2/+2 first strike and trample. This turns even the most humble one drops, like Fireblade Charger or Tajuru Blightblade, into credible threats capable of tearing their way through enemy blockers.

Not only that, but Chronicle of Victory also allows you to draw a card whenever you cast a spell of that type, making it ideal for decks running lots of small creatures that all share a type, as you’ll be able to keep your momentum going indefinitely without running out of cards.

3. Champion of the Perfect

Beast Whisperer
is a staple of Green Commander decks, since it allows you to draw a card whenever you cast a creature spell, and if you’re playing green, then you’ll be casting a lot of creature spells. The only issue with Beast Whisperer is its decidedly unimpressive 2/3 stat line.

Champions of the Perfect fixes up this issue, offering an impressive 6/6 worth of stats for only 4 mana. While you need to exile an elf either from your hand or from play to cast this card, if Champions of the Perfect ends up leaving the battlefield, then the exiled elf will just make their way safely back to your hand none the worse for wear.

This card is pretty perfect for any elf typal deck.
