In Reality Fracture, the MTG multiverse was ripped apart by the scheming of the mind mage Jace. By opening booster packs from the set, you'll be able to put together a deck featuring cards showing the heroic struggle to stop his sinister plotting. But maybe you don't want to stop Jace, maybe you want to experience the new universe that he's building for yourself. Enter the Multiverse Reforged Commander Deck.

In Reality Fracture, the MTG multiverse was ripped apart by the scheming of the mind mage Jace. By opening booster packs from Reality Fracture, you'll be able to put together a deck featuring cards showing the heroic struggle to stop his sinister plotting. But maybe you don't want to stop Jace, maybe you want to experience the new universe that he's building for yourself. Enter the Multiverse Reforged Commander Deck.

Released alongside a series of 5 Foundations Commander Decks, Multiverse Reforged is a ready to play 100 card Commander deck focusing on Jace and the 'echoverse' that he's building. It incorporates four of magic's five colours (each of them apart from green), and its strategy revolves around using the commander Jace, Multiverse Architect to cast massive creatures from the top of your deck without paying their cost.

Let's take a look at the deck's strategy, talk about some key cards, and some potential upgrades.

The Commanders

The two MTG Commanders Jace, Multiverse Architechct, and Nissa, Leyline Tamer from the MTG Multiverse Reforged Commander deck

Multiverse Reforged comes with a choice of two possible commanders.

Jace, Multiverse Architect is the primary commander of the deck, as well as the main antagonist of Reality Fracture's storyline. This four colour version of Magic's most famous planeswalker has three abilities.

His passive effect force opponents to pay mana if they want to attack him, or other Jace planeswalkers that you control. This keeps him safe, unless opponents are incredibly determined to go after him, allowing him to fully utilize his other two effects.

Jace's +1 provides card advantage, allowing to draw two cards, then return a card from your hand to the bottom of your library. This is useful if you're running low on resources, but the real appeal of this card is the -3 ability. By exiling a creature or planeswalker that you control, Jace reveals cards from the top of your library until you reveal a planeswalker or a creature. This is the central ability around which the entire deck is based. Multiverse Reforged is filled with formidable creatures like Ob Nixilis, the Ascended, Overlord of the Mistmoors, and Memnarch, the Warden. By using Jace's ability, you can bring any of these powerful threats straight into play without needing to pay their mana cost.

Then there's Nissa, Leyline Tamer. Just like Jace, Nissa is all about helping you cheat creatures into play. While you control Nissa, Leyline Tamer the first time that you play a land each turn, you draw a card and then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a creature and put that creature straight into play.

Nissa works fantastically with fetch lands, since they trigger her ability on your turn when they enter play, and then you can sacrifice them during opponents' turns in order to use Nissa again. The deck contains a few fetch lands in the form of Fabled Passage, Perilous Landscape, and Contaminated Landscape. If you decide to slot Nissa into the Command Zone, it would be a good idea to include some more fetch lands in the deck, or other methods of playing lands during your opponents' turns in order to take full advantage of her ability.

Key Cards

Avacyn, Angel of Horror, the Ur-Sphinx and Darksteel Angel, 3 key cards from the MTG Multiverse Reforged Commander deck.

Since the deck is all about using Jace's effect to play massive creatures, let's take a look at some of the big cards you can cheat out...

Avacyn, Angel of Horror - A parallel universe version of Avacyn, Angel of Hope. Unlike the original Avacyn, who grants all of your permanents indestructible, her new monoblack counterpart instead resurrects your creatures when they die. Since Avacyn, Angel of Horror also resurrects herself, she's incredibly difficult to get rid of unless and opponent can hit her with a removal spell that exiles. Once you've built up a board full of creatures, Avaycn, Angel of Horror is a great way of ensuring that none of them end up in your graveyard for too long.

The Ur-Sphinx - The Ur-Sphinx is one of the strangest cards included in the deck. It is a clear callback to the Ur-Dragon from Commander 2017, except it cares about sphinxes rather than dragons. The Ur-Sphinx makes each of your Sphinxes one mana cheaper, while it is in play or in the Command Zone, and it also allows you to steal and cast spells from the opponent's deck when it attacks.

What makes this card strange is that, despite its clear Sphinx typal themes, it is absolutely the only Sphinx card in the deck. While the Ur-Sphinx makes for a fine commander in its own right, you'll want to swap it out for another evasive threat like Ashen Rider or Zetalpa, Primal Dawn that you can swing into play for free with Jace's ability instead.

Darksteel Angel - The card Platinum Angel is an iconic creature printed way back in the 2003 set Mirrodin, that prevents its controller from losing the game. Darksteel Angel is a version of Platinum Angel that's made out of an even firmer metal. Not only does Darksteel Angel prevent its controller from losing the game, but it's also indestructible meaning that opponents will really need to go the extra mile in order to get rid of it and put victory back within their reach once again.

Upgrades

Three recommended upgrades for the MTG Reality Fracture Multiverse Reforged Commander Deck.

Leori, Sparktouched Hunter - Originally from the Planeswalker Party Commander Deck, Leori, Sparktouched Hunter allows you to copy the abilities of planeswalkers that you control. This means that Jace will be able to bring twice as many creatures from the top of your library into play at once. Not only that, but Leori has both flying and vigilance, enabling it to act as an excellent defender for any attacks directed at Jace.

Jace's Triumph - Jace's Triumph is a strictly better version of Divination that draws three cards, rather than two, while you control a Jace Planeswalker. While Divination isn't a card that's far below the recommended power level most Commander players strive for, the extra card drawn by Jace's Triumph makes this effect a lot more viable.

Reanimate - Even the biggest creatures sometimes end up in the graveyard. Whether that's due to combat or by discarding them to an effect like Occult Epiphany. Given this deck's major emphasis on summoning massive creatures, you'll want a way of ressurecting them, and Renimate remains the best way of achieving that goal for only one mana.

Spark Double - What's better than one Jace? Two Jaces! Spark Double is a clone effect that also works on planeswalkers, and allows legendary creatures to be duplicated without sacricing the original. This makes it an incredibly versatile tool for a deck like this. You can grab a second copy of Jace to help bring more creatures from the top of your deck into play, or you can just use the card to duplicate your biggest creature once they're on the battlefield. Go with whichever idea sparks more joy.

Deification - Since Jace, Multiverse Architecht is the lynchpin of your deck's strategy, you need to ensure that you can keep him safe. With Deification in play, Jace will gain hexproof (preventing him from being targeted by your opponents' spells), and other players will be unable to destroy him in combat while you control any creatures. If you customise your deck to add more Jace planeswalkers, or just cast a lot of Empower Jace effects. Deification will provide the same protection to each of your other Jaces as well.

Reforging the Multiverse

Bringing massive creatures into play without paying their cost for a sneak attack always feels satisfying, and Multiverse Reforged allows you to sneak out some truly intimidating monsters from parallel worlds.
