Wondering which Hobbit product you should buy? The answer depends on what you want to do with the cards, from drafting with friends, opening the coolest variants to collect, building a collection, or perhaps buying as a gift. Released on 14 August 2026, the main choice comes down to the two Booster Boxes; Play Booster boxes are best for playing (i.e. drafting), while Collector Booster Boxes are best for players looking to collect the amazing variants in the set. The Hobbit Products
Play Booster Boxes – cheaper than collector boosters, the easiest way to get your hands on Hobbit cards and play (draft, sealed)
Collector Booster Boxes – more expensive than Play Boosters and you can’t use them to draft or do sealed, however they have a higher destiny or rare/mythic cards, as well as variants and foils
Bundle – great way to jump into the set with 9 boosters, spindown, full-art lands traditional lands (34 in total), and a promo
Gift bundle – what you get in the bundle, but with a Collector Booster also included, and the full art Hobbit lands are upgraded to surge foil, in a foil box with a different design
Scene boxes – great for collectors who love a display, contains six traditional foil borderless scene cards, six art cards, three play booster packs, and a paper display easel
Draft night – a kit for everything you need to host a ‘pick-two’ draft at home. It has three Play Boosters per player and 1 Collector Booster intended as a prize for the winner. There are 90 Basic Land cards to help assemble decks after drafting, and 10 double-sided token cards
Single Collector Booster pack – Single Collector Boosters offer the chance to open some really great cards, if you don’t fancy splashing out for an entire box
Play Booster Box vs Collector Booster Box
This is the core question that most players will face, and the answer really lies in what you're interested in when it comes to Magic: The Gathering.
The quick answer is that the clue is in the name of the product; are you looking to play, or collect? The main difference between the two is that the versions of cards in the Collector Boosters are flashier, from foils to stunning variants, and that they come at a higher cost. The Play Boosters are cheaper, but the majority of cards are standard printings. There are a couple of outliers in that there are some cards you can get in Collector Boosters that are not in Play Boosters, but largely the card pool is the same.
So if you want to pay more for premium packs weighted towards foils and special treatments, then Collector Boosters are the way to go. If you just want to open packs, draft, and bolster your number of cards, Play Boosters are a better choice.
The Bundle vs the Gift Bundle
To Bundle, or to Gift Bundle? That is the question!
Bundles are a brilliant, ready-to-play mix of Hobbit cards (9 Play Boosters) and lands (including 4 seasonal basic lands) with a Spindown too. The Gift Bundle is a little more special, including a Collector Booster, the Gift Bundle upgrades the 4 seasonal Hobbit basic lands to exclusive Surge Foils, and comes with a shiny box and an oversized Spindown life counter.
Scene Boxes and Draft Night
There are a couple of specific other products too. Scene Boxes are a really interesting collection of cards (six borderless cards for collectors) that make a ‘scene’ image when placed together. Draft Night is a product that has everything you need for a full four-player draft pod.
