This February 27th will be Pokémon Day, an annual celebration of the beloved monster catching series. This year, though, everything will be slightly more special than usual.

Pokémon Day 2026
This February 27th will be Pokémon Day, an annual celebration of the beloved monster catching series. This year, though, everything will be slightly more special than usual.
The first Pokémon games (Red and Green) were launched in Japan on the 27th January 1996. This makes this Pokémon Day the 30th anniversary of the series, and the Pokémon Company has promised big things.
But what dream announcements would you want to hear as the series enters its third decade? If you could have any kind of Pokémon update, what would you want most?
We spoke to our community on Discord, and here's what they told us they are hoping for from the series for its 30th birthday...
1. Generation 10
One of the most frequently requested Pokémon Day updates is also, fortunately, one of the most likely to come true.
Currently, there have been 9 generations of Pokémon games. From the original generation, released back on the Game Boy in 1996, to Scarlet and Violet, which came out for the Switch in November 2022.
A new Pokémon generation rolls around roughly every three or four years, and now that we're entering 2026 we're due for the announcement of a new region, and another cast of colourful Pocket Monsters to inhabit it.
2. Remakes of classic games
Given that Game Boys hit shelves in 1989, it's very difficult to get your hands on one today if you feel like playing one of the original Pokémon games. The same applies to getting a Game Boy Colour to play Gold, Silver, or Crystal. Even getting a Game Boy Advance to play Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald can be challenging.
Not only that, but if you can dig up one of these classic consoles to re-experience the early days of the series, then when you're done, you won't be able to transfer your team into the present using Pokémon HOME.
By relaunching these titles on the Switch or Switch 2, it will be possible for newer players to experience them for the first time, and for series veterans to look back fondly on the good old days.
3. A new Pokémon TCG set
Of course, if you're a Pokémon fan in the Magic Madhouse Discord community, then chances are that you're also a massive fan of the Pokémon TCG.
Ascended Heroes just dropped, and Perfect Order is on the horizon (with the set Ninja Spinner due to release in Japan), but beyond that, the Pokemon TCG release schedule for 2026 is still shrouded in mystery.
When Pokémon Day comes around, it would be great to get some updates on what else 2026 has to offer for keen card gamers.
4. A Black and White Remaster
In 2021, the games Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were released, remastering the fourth generation of Pokémon for the modern day with chibi graphics.
This means that it's generation five's turn for a remaster next. Chibi graphics or no, the community on the Magic Madhouse Discord has made it clear that it would be great to return to Unova for another clash with Team Plasma.
In the world of the Pokémon TCG, the recent Black Bolt and White Flare expansions were focussed on the Pokémon introduced in Black and White. This could indicate a digital return, to accompany our trip back in time on the tabletop.
5. Pokemon Colosseum/XD Remaster
When we think of Pokémon games, we usually don't imagine them being gritty and mature, but that was exactly the vibe that Pokémon Colosseum was trying to capture.
This 2004 GameCube title attempted to tell a darker Pokémon tale aimed at older audiences. With an anti-heroic protagonist, and plot beats involving malevolent "shadow Pokémon" who had their hearts closed and had a limited ability to feel emotion.
Colosseum, and its sequel Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, are both cult classic Pokémon games that many in our community clearly want to revisit.
6. More information on Pokémon Champions
Pokémon Champions was announced during Pokémon Day last year. The idea is simple, but exciting. It's a "Pokémon Battle Simulator" that will allow players to clash in competitive tier Pokémon matches without needing to worry about training up their team in one of the mainline games first.
Beyond the fact that it's a battle simulator, like the Pokémon Stadium series, and Pokémon Battle Revolution before it, not a lot else is known about Pokémon Champions. Maybe this Pokémon Day, on the anniversary of its initial announcement, we'll be able to get more details about it?
7. Updates for the Pokémon Mobile Games
There are a wide selection of Pokémon titles that you can play on your smartphone, or download from the Nintendo eShop.
These games tend to be quite experimental and cover a wide variety of genres.
Pokémon Café ReMix is more about baking than it is about battling. Pokémon Unite is a real time multiplayer online battle arena. Pokémon Masters EX shines the spotlight on trainers, and there are many other spin off titles out there with other focuses.
Fans of all of these games would like to see some new updates come through this Pokémon Day to show that they can get the same love as the main series.
8. A New Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Game
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team was a surprise shake up to the traditional formula, and it was a big hit when it launched in 2005.
Rather than occurring in a world that resembles our own (albeit one filled with multi-coloured monsters that people love to send into battle against one another) the Mystery Dungeon games feature no humans at all.
Instead, the world of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon sees Pokémon forming their own communities, and venturing into randomised dungeons, caves, forests, and swamps together in search of treasure and adventure.
The series was known for having nuanced plots, but unfortunately, there haven't been any Mystery Dungeon updates since the original games were rereleased back in 2020.
Could this Pokémon Day bring back this beloved side series and see us all venturing back into some mysterious dungeons once again?
9. A Pokémon MMO
A fully fledged Pokémon Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying game has a been a dream of fans of the series for generations now.
Being able to battle and trade with other players inside a real online Pokémon ecosystem, and to venture out across the different regions in adventuring parties with friends, and their own teams definitely seems appealing.
Maybe this idea is a distant dream, but if it could be brought about, then it would be fantastic fun.
10. 30th Anniversary Edition Switch 2
If you love playing Pokémon, then it only makes sense that you'd want a console that reflects that. Users on our Discord server have made it clear that they would absolutely love to have a Pokémon 30th Anniversary Switch 2.
Pokémon Through February
Pokémon Day is coming on the 27th, so it's a while off yet, but if we get even half of the announcements listed here, then it's sure to be unforgettable.
When the day comes, we'll be hosting a watch party of the official live stream in our Discord server so make sure that you sign up and come along for the ride.
