In short: Magic: The Gathering's 2026 release schedule features seven Standard-legal sets across the year, splitting three in-universe releases (Lorwyn Eclipsed, Secrets of Strixhaven, Reality Fracture) with four Universes Beyond crossovers (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Superheroes, The Hobbit, Star Trek).
The full 2026 slate, in order:
- January — Lorwyn Eclipsed: Return to Lorwyn/Shadowmoor after almost 20 years, with double-sided transforming legendaries, shock lands, and -1/-1 counters.

Magic: the Gathering will be embarking on a bold new journey as we step into 2026. There are seven sets currently queued up to be released this year. All of them will be standard legal, three of them take place within the Magic: the Gathering’s pre-established setting, while four are crossovers that take us into the Universes Beyond. Students from the magical university of Strixhaven will be hitting the battlefield alongside Captain America, and the fairytale creatures of Lorwyn will be voyaging where no man has gone before, together with characters from Star Trek.
Let’s break 2026 down, set by set, and see what the year to come has to offer for planeswalkers everywhere.
Lorwyn Eclipsed – January
The first new set out of the gate will be Lorwyn Eclipsed. We first came to this fairytale world more than a decade ago when Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block was released over the course of 2007-2008. Lorwyn Eclipsed plunges us back into a fractured world where light and darkness both blend and struggle with one another.
Preview season for Lorwyn Eclipsed will start on the 5th January, but we already know a little bit of what lies in store. The set will feature double-sided legendries that can transform back and forth, shock lands, and masses of -1/-1 counters.
This is a return that MTG players have been eagerly awaiting for almost 20 years, and it’s sure to eclipse all of our expectations.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – March
The Ninja Turtles are stepping out of the sewers and making the leap from screen to tabletop in March thanks to the upcoming Magic: the Gathering Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle crossover.
This turtle-packed set is queued up to bring us some really creative new possibilities. From the Pizza Bundle that’s stuffed full of lands and promo cards that feature artwork loaded with cheesy goodness, the cooperative Turtle Team-Up box set that brings players together to fight off the foot clan, or the 5-colour Turtle Power! Commander deck. Cowabunga!
Secrets of Strixhaven – April
Strixhaven is the finest Magical university in the multiverse of Magic: the Gathering. We’ve been to this campus once before, back in 2021 during the set Strixhaven: School of Mages.
2021’s Strixhaven was a faction set similar to others like Ravnica and Streets of New Capenna. Except, rather than commanding a guild or a crime family, players were placed in charge of one of several magical colleges. With different draft archetypes available for history buffs, theatre kids, math whizzes, biology-loving botanists, and aspiring poets.
In April of 2026, we’ll be dusting off our spellbooks, quills, and robes, and returning for another semester at Strixhaven.
Marvel Superheroes – June
Marvel and Magic: the Gathering have already crossed over a handful of times. In September of 2025, we got a Spider-Man set, and there have been several Secret Lair drops featuring The Avengers and their allies.
Next June, a full Marvel set will bring Superheroes into MTG like never before.
We’ve already gotten a few previews of what’s coming in this set. We know that there’s going to be a Fantastic Four Commander deck, and we’ve seen the cards for The Hulk, Captain America, and a handful of other heroes. There’s going to be much more to come, though, as previews for this comic book crossover slowly assemble.
The Hobbit – August
Back in 2023, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth was the first full Universes Beyond set in the history of Magic: the Gathering. In 2026, we will not only be travelling back to Middle-Earth, but also back in time, to explore the story of The Hobbit.
This predecessor to The Lord of the Rings will take us on a journey from the Shire to the Misty Mountains. We’ve already gotten a card showing the protagonist Bilbo as a retired burglar, but now we’ll get to see him in his prime during his adventuring days.
Tales of Middle-Earth had a massive impact on the meta of Magic: the Gathering thanks to introducing powerful cards like Orcish Bowmasters and The One Ring. Only time will tell if The Hobbit will provide as much power as our first trip into the world of Tolkien.
Reality Fracture – October
Reality Fracture is the most mysterious set of 2026. It’s an in-universe Magic: the Gathering set that Wizards of the Coast are deliberately keeping mysterious. Its official page says players should, “get ready to see the Multiverse as you've never seen it before”.
It’s the conclusion of a long running MTG story arc, and serves as a grand finale set similar to War of the Spark, and March of the Machine. Beyond the fact that It’s going to be big though, we don’t know a lot about Reality Fracture. Or at least not yet…
Star Trek – November
When Spacecrafts were first put into Magic: the Gathering with the set Edge of Eternities in 2025, it became clear that it was only a matter of time before we would get a big Sci-Fi crossover to fully take advantage of the interstellar strategies this new card type opened up.
2026’s final set will take us beyond the final frontier and into the new worlds of the Star Trek universe. While we’re currently in the dark in terms of information about this enterprising new set, beyond a small selection of previews of new card artwork, it is sure to be packed with enough Klingons, Vulcans, and Ferengi to open up vast horizons of new design space.
Magic: the Gathering enters 2026
That’s everything that we know so far about what’s to come for the best card game in the multiverse in 2026.
